WINDSOR COUNTY, VT, May 14, 2026: Hudson Ranney, a 19-year-old Windsor resident, officially filed his candidacy for High Bailiff of Windsor County yesterday. He announced his intent to run earlier this year and is running as a Democrat.
The High Bailiff is one of Windsor County’s few independently elected positions, a civilian office with the authority to step in when the sheriff cannot serve. Ranney sees it as more than a backup role. He wants residents to know that someone in county government is paying attention and that the office can serve as a meaningful resource for the community.
Ranney grew up in Windsor and wants to give back to the community that raised him. His focus is simple: make county government easier for everyday residents to access and understand.
“I’ve been excited about this since I announced it earlier this year, and it feels good to make it official,” said Ranney. “This office exists so that no single person in the county government is without a check. I want people to feel like their local government is working for them, and that’s really what this is about: restoring trust in local government.
A Windsor High School graduate and local community organizer, Ranney looks forward to getting out and hearing directly from Windsor County residents in the months ahead.
